Helen R. (Schall) Spina

Helen R. (Schall) Spina, 93, of Naples, FL, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

She was born Jan. 3, 1931 in Rose Valley, Cowanshannock Twp., Armstrong County, PA, to Roy Ivory Schall and Mabel Mildred (Fleming) Schall.

Helen attended the Boyer School for the first eight years of her education and graduated from Elderton High School in 1949. She also attended New Castle Business College. Upon her marriage to Frank A. Spina, she became a resident of Butler and was employed as a secretary at Pangborn Corporation for 14 years. While living in Butler, Helen and Frank were members of the Armco Country Club in Slippery Rock and spent many happy hours pursing their favorite sport, golf.

For many years, Helen and her husband spent their winters in Naples, FL and in 1993 made the area their permanent home. Helen was a member and ordained deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Naples, and also volunteered for the Salvation Army. Helen was also a member of the Lely Hibiscus Golf Course in Naples.

Helen was a child caregiver, watching children from infancy to middle school. She was known for her creativity and sold many of her handcrafted items in local Naples shops. In 2007 and for a few short years, she spent several months during the summer near her family in Pennsylvania, but later made her permanent home in Naples.

Her memory will be cherished by her son, John M. Schall and wife, Tricia, of Indiana, PA; grandchildren, Jessica L. Rising and husband, Scott, of Greensburg, Jeremy Roy Schall and wife, Shannon, of Shelocta, and Jonah Michael Schall and wife, Taylor, of Shippensburg, PA; great-granddaughter, Sarah Louise Rising, of Greensburg; great-grandsons, Liam V. Schall and Finn A. Schall; step-granddaughter, Kelsey Williams and fiancée Danny Scoff; great-grandsons, Weston K. Williams and Colton M. Williams; brother, Robert H. Schall and wife, Shirley, of Elderton; sister, Luella Curzi, of Albuquerque, NM; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends, William and Mary Moses Ermatinger and son, William III of Naples, FL, Miguel and Kelly Zacarias and son, Jacob, all of Naples, FL, and Fermine and Nolvia Perez and children, Xiomara, Benjamin, Gabriel, and Jonathan; and her Naples Salvation Army Family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Frank A. Spina, whom she married July 9, 1963 and who died November 10, 1995; and brother-in-law, Joseph E. Curzi.

Friends will be received from 10 AM until the time of the memorial service at 11 AM on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at Elderton Presbyterian Church, 115 N. Main St., Elderton, PA, with Rev. Dr. Angel De La Cruz officiating.

Burial will be in Elderton Cemetery, Elderton, PA.
