Russell W. Boyer

Russell W. Boyer, 78, of Ford City, PA, died Sunday, January 13, 2013, at Life Care Hospital in Natrona Heights.

He was born December 1, 1934 in Plumcreek Twp., Armstrong Co., PA to Johnathan R. and Mildred (Blystone) Boyer.

Russell was a resident of Armstrong County all his life and graduated from Elderton High School. He worked for Bauer Block Company for over 23 years as a truck driver and was a member of St. Paul's Congregational Church. Russell enjoyed being part of the Elderton community. He was an active member of Woodman of the World and was very active in the Elderton Lions Club and especially liked making the apple butter with the group.

Russell enjoyed being outdoors and he loved farming, going on hunting trips and working on his pristine lawn. He also had fond memories of traveling to search for antiques with his beloved wife, Elmira. Russell was a very skilled woodworker and was known for crafting beautiful grandfather clocks. Above all, he loved spending time with his family - especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren - and they will always remember the wonderful times they spent together through the years.

His memory will be cherished by his sons, Thomas E. Boyer and wife, Brenda, of Kittanning, Ronald B. Boyer and wife, Tina, of Ford City, and Gary S. Boyer and wife, Vonnie, of Shelocta; daughters, Diane McClafferty and husband, Louis, of Rural Valley and Melanie Wannett and husband, Mark, of Marion Center; step-son, Terry L. Miller and wife, Janice, of Ford City; step-daughters, Linda D. Dailey and husband, Allen, of Pleasant Unity, Patricia A. Orr and husband, Harry "Ed", of Shelocta, and Tammy L. Boyer and husband, Barry, of Ford City; 23 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brothers, Walter E. Boyer, of Greenville and Floyd B. Boyer, of Rural Valley; sisters, Lois D. Boyer, of Rural Valley, Janet Fry and husband, Harvey, of Ford City, Ellen Boyer, of Rural Valley, Gertrude Smilo and husband, Joseph, of Latrobe, and Alice L. Laney and husband, James, of Homer City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Russell was preceded in death by her parents, loving wife of 36 years, Elmira L. (Elmert) Boyer, who passed away October 2, 2007; sons, Wayne E. Boyer and Roger D. Boyer; grandson, Shawn Boyer; step-grandsons, Kevin Miller and James Matthew Orr; sister, Hazel Boyer Johnson.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Clark Chapel of Bauer Funeral Home, Inc., 238 South Main St., Elderton, PA.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at the funeral home with Rev. Tim Lewis officiating.

Interment will be at St. Paul's Cemetery, Plumcreek Twp., Armstrong Co., PA.
