Audrey L. Newsom

Audrey L. Newsom, 88, of Creekside, passed away on Monday, May 19, 2025 at her home.

She was born July 29, 1936, Dime, PA; the daughter of Israel Pete and Goldie (Blystone) Yount.

Audrey was a previous member of the Grace Independent Baptist Church of Shelocta where she was a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She most recently attended the Crooked Creek Baptist Church in Chambersville. Audrey was the original owner and administrator of Brookview Country Manor Personal Care Home, since 1967. Audrey was known for her carpentry and masonry skills and completed the construction of her personal care home herself. In earlier years she drove a school bus for Christian School and also for public school children. Audrey found joy in sharing the love of Jesus, sewing, crocheting, and gardening. She cherished the moments spent at home with her family, especially the time shared with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Darlene Rupert and husband Larry of Elderton and Roberta Spencer and husband Johnny of Creekside; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Ivan Yount and wife Alyson of Shelocta; sisters, Roseline Smeltzer of Elderton, and Donna Bash of Kittanning; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Audrey is preceded in death by parents; her loving husband, Robert E. Newsom, Jr. whom she married on May 3, 1958 and who passed away on Nov. 19, 2005; son, Eugene Newsom; daughters, Charold Silvis, Robin Gillespie, and Brenda Bash; grandsons, Charles "Budzy" Gillespie, D.J. Erdley, and Robert Eugene Newsom, Jr.; brothers, Vernon Yount, Dewayne Yount, Charles Schrecengost, Ronald Yount, and Gerald Yount; and sisters, Joann Sigley and Geneva Sigley.

Family and friends will be received from 1 PM until the time of services at 3 PM on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at the Clark Chapel of Bauer Funeral Home, Inc., 238 S. Main St., Elderton, PA with the Rev. Julius Guidash officiating.

Interment will be in Atwood Cemetery, Armstrong County, PA.
