Gary Tanner Haynes

Gary Tanner Haynes, 66, of Kittanning, PA, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on April 2, 1959 in Long Island, NY, the son of Joseph Charles and Ruth Evelyn (Tanner) Haynes.

Gary was a 1977 graduate of Freeport High School and later earned his degree from CCAC in August of 2004. In 2007, he made his home in the Kittanning area and was a member of St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.

Gary was a dedicated and hardworking man throughout his life. He worked as a surface grinder at Oberg from 1983 until 1989, proudly earning his Journeyman certificate on January 25, 1986. He later spent many years with ATI as a roll grinder from 1992 until 2018. Never one to sit still, Gary worked as a Pepsi truck driver from 2018 to 2020, then with the USPS in Pittsburgh until 2022. Most recently, he drove for several rideshare platforms.

Gary enjoyed cheering on the Pittsburgh sports teams and attending sporting events. He treasured the time spent with his family traveling and loved their camping trips. He was known as the family handyman, he was always ready to lend a hand. Gary's greatest joy came from being with his family, especially his grandchildren.

His memory will be cherished by his loving wife, Ginny L. (Sypulski) Haynes, whom he married on Sept. 28, 2002; and his children, Sarah Dahl and husband, Peter of St. Paul, MN, Renee Durant and husband, Pockett of Phoenix, AZ, Courtney Haynes and partner, Nathan of Bel Air, MD, Nicholas Haynes and partner, Kayla of Chicago, IL, and Kyrene Zack and husband, Beau of Chambersburg, PA.

He will be missed by his grandchildren, Evan and Emily Dahl, Jazmyne and PJ Durant, Noah Rosenberry, Beau Tanner and Lee Zack. He will also be missed by his beloved English Cream Golden Retriever, Sylver; and his cat, Smokey.

Gary is also survived by his brothers, Joseph Haynes and wife, Cheryl of Cheswick, PA, William Haynes and wife, Debbie of Slidell, LA, and Tom Haynes and wife, Ericca of Hadley, PA; nieces and nephews, Jodi, Leah, Greg, Colleen, Meghan, Ian, Shannon, Aaron, Michelle, Randy Joe, and Ryan; and several great nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Colleen Lynn Haynes; and nephew, William Joseph "BJ" Haynes. He will also be reunited with his pets Sylvester and Mamma Kitty.

Friends and family will be received from 1 - 3 PM and 6 - 8 PM on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 N. McKean Street, Kittanning, PA.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 AM on Monday, March 2, 2026 at St. Mary Our Lady of Guadalupe, 101 West High Street, Kittanning PA with The Very Reverend Eric J. Dinga, V.F. as celebrant.

Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell, PA.
