Dr. James K. Greenbaum
Dr. James K. Greenbaum of Kittanning, PA, died Thursday, March 13, 2014. He was 92.

He was the son of Meyer G. and Alice (McCready) Greenbaum, born April 2, 1921 in Pittsburgh, PA, and died peacefully at his home in Kittanning, surrounded by family.
After graduating from Princeton University in 1942, he managed an airport in Arequipa, Peru as part of a civilian program to assist the war effort in guarding the air approaches to the Panama Canal. He returned to the United States in 1944 and enlisted in the US Army Air Corps as a pilot. After his honorable discharge, he attended Harvard Medical School, graduating in 1951. He completed his one year internship at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, and then practiced general medicine in Kittanning until 1958. Jim returned to Pittsburgh for a residency position at Children's Hospital and then returned to Kittanning to practice pediatrics from 1960 to 2009. He was the first pediatrician to practice in Armstrong County.
In his 58 years of practicing medicine, Jim was a dedicated professional, highly regarded by his peers and loved by his many patients. He was a man of compassion and generosity, intellectually curious, and a true character with a gentle touch that affected the lives of many.
Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary (Shannon) Greenbaum, who died in 1995; his brothers, Robert M. Greenbaum and George P. Greenbaum; and his grandson, Thomas P. Hanniford.
He is survived by his children, Beth P. Lewis and husband, Jay, of Boothbay, ME; Sarah S. Hanniford and husband, Neil, of Carlisle, PA; Lisa M. Coakley and husband, James, of Alexandria, VA; Ellen G. Barker and husband, William, of Jackman, ME; James K. Greenbaum, Jr. and wife, Kim, of Mill Run, PA; and John A. Greenbaum and wife, Susan, of Carlisle, PA; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and good neighbor and close friend, Mary Lu Bennett.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 112 N. Water St., Kittanning, with the Rev. Dr. William J. Pugliese officiating.
