Mary Lou Shriver
Mary Lou Shriver, 98, of Kittanning, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.She was born on March 7, 1927 in Mudlic, Armstrong County, PA, the daughter of Samuel Hobert and Ella Marie (Shaffer) Hetrick.
Mary Lou was a lifelong resident of Armstrong County. She graduated from Redbank High School and later earned a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Mary Lou taught first grade at Armstrong Central Elementary School where she nurtured and inspired countless students over the years
Mary Lou attended Walkchalk Salem Baptist Church. Her life has always been grounded by her strong faith in the Lord. She impacted many lives with her love, kindness, and generosity. Teaching her Sunday School classes was an important part of her life, and she was involved with her students' lives for many years. She is remembered for the many cards she sent to everyone she knew, always with a handwritten note of encouragement.
She was devoted to her family and was happiest when spending time with them. She loved cooking and entertaining. Family and friends have so many wonderful memories of holidays, birthdays, and parties at her home. Any event she planned was truly a special occasion.
She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Nancy L. (Shriver) Coldren of Kittanning; son, Randy Shriver and wife Myra of Kittanning; and grandchildren, Andrew Coldren, Jesse Shriver and wife Janessa and their children Chloe and Connor Shriver, Joel Shriver and wife Emily and their children, Thomas, Oliver, and Gerrit Shirver, Holly Kukucka and husband Graham and their children, Rowen and Callum Kukucka, and Anna Angotti and husband Tony.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Norman E. Shriver whom she married in 1948 and who passed away on Sept. 11, 2019; and her siblings, Dorothy Reedy, Grace M. Burkett, John Hetrick, George Samuel Hetrick, Carl Hetrick, and Richard Hetrick.
Services were privately held, followed by entombment in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington, PA.
