Mary O. (Hunter) Chadwell

Mary O. (Hunter) Chadwell, 68, of Sligo passed away peacefully in her home on November 10, 2023, after bravely facing an illness.

Mary was born on June 19, 1955 to Robert and Peggy (McClosky) Hunter, of Rimersburg. She attended Union High School.

Mary was married to Guy S. Chadwell, who preceded her in death in 1975. Mary's significant other of many years, Rich Switzer, preceded her in death in 2019.

There could not be found a harder worker than Mary! She was employed as a prep cook for Perkins in Clarion for 13 years. Most recently, she worked at Walmart in Clarion in the bakery department. For 21 years, her very early morning shift included preparing the donuts for the day.

In her spare time, Mary liked to play bingo, watch the game show network and cooking shows. She enjoyed cooking and trying out new recipes for family gatherings, which she loved to host in her home.

Mary is survived by her three children; Guy Chadwell and his wife Angela of San Jose, CA, Jessica Shrum and her husband, Dustin of Sligo, and Tara Switzer and Mark Bell of Knox. They will carry on their mother's legacy of working hard and loving well.

Mary derived the greatest joy from being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. "Grandma" was her favorite name and role. She enjoyed being involved in their daily lives, attending their school events, and hosting sleepovers with them. Her six grandchildren are Curry and Hanna Chadwell, Karlee and Makenna Shrum, Alyson and Jordon Bell. They will always remember their grandmother's feisty personality and unwavering support.

Mary had four sisters, all of whom remain; Laura Craig and husband Roger of Parker, Janet Springer and husband Blair of Rimersburg, Bobbie Forsythe of Sligo, and Peggy Fontaine of Pittsburgh.

The family will remember their mother, grandmother, and sister in a private viewing at Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home.

If you wish to honor Mary's life and the compassionate care she received, memorial donations can be made to UPMC Northwest Cancer Center or Clarion Forest VNA Hospice.
