Lugena M. "Jean" Goyda
Lugena M. "Jean" Goyda, a.k.a "Nanny", 100, of Ford City, PA, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023 at Quality Life Services - Sugarcreek in Worthington, PA.She was born June 21, 1923 in Seminole, Armstrong Co., PA, the daughter of Dominick F. Angello, Sr. and Anna (Caruso) Angello.
Jean lived in Armstrong County all of her life and was a resident of Ford City since the 1930s. Though she was blessed to be able to care for her family, she stayed busy by working various jobs and volunteering for many organizations. During her life she worked at her brother's pizza shop, as a clerk for G. C. Murphy and was the nanny for the Presbyterian Church nursery for 25 years. She was fondly known as "Nanny" by many. Jean was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Church, where she was known as "The Pierogi Lady;" she also volunteered for the Free Meals program and the Head Start program. Baking was one of her many gifts, and Jean also had the special distinction of being the first person to cross the Ford City Bridge.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Michael L. Goyda, of East Petersburg, and Larry D. Goyda, of Pittsburgh; daughter, Anita L. Simpson and husband, David, of Concord, NC; daughter-in-law, Ann Lash of Downingtown, PA; grandchildren, Reagan Hauer and husband, Andrew, Sage Goyda and wife, Donna, Gabriel Simpson and wife, Elizabeth, Phillip Simpson and wife, Amy, Melia Heilman and husband, Justin, Travis Anderson, Jenna Danckwart and husband, Nic, and Zachary Goyda; eight great-grandchildren, Zoe, Nevaeh, Kyler, Olivia, Cameron, Cecelia, Anna, and Issac; and sister, Bertha Shankle of Kittanning, PA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael Goyda, whom she married January 23, 1944 and who died in 1987; a daughter, Mary L. Anderson; brothers, Anthony Angello, Vincent Angello, Joseph Angello and Dominic F. Angello, Jr.; and sisters, Frances Angello, Rose Staravoyt, Christina Perseghetti, and Mary Webb.
Family and friends will be received from 3 - 5 PM on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023, at the Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning, PA.
Additional visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, at the funeral home with the Pastor Eric Damon officiating.
Burial will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington, PA.
