Donald Deroy Holliday, age 85, of Rimersburg, PA, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2012, at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born in Black Fox, PA on September 7, 1926, the son of Samuel Jay and Nellie Bell (Wyant) Holliday.

Don was a lifetime resident of Western Pennsylvania and was of the Protestant faith. He honorably served his country during WWII as a member of the Tank Division in the US Army. Don fought in the Germany-European Theatre and received the Good Conduct Medal, Army Occupation Medal, European-African-Middle East Theatre Ribbon and WWII Victory Medal. After returning from the war, he worked as a finisher in the molding department at National Casting in Sharon, PA for 28 years until his retirement in 1983 and was a lifetime member of the Parker VFW.

Hunting and fishing were some hobbies he enjoyed and also liked watching NASCAR. Don also liked attending dirt track races at the Sharon and Mercer Speedway and always cheered on his favorite drivers, Lou Blaney, Ralph Quarterson and Jack Hewitt. Family was a driving force in Don's life and he loved spending time with his grandchildren at his camp in Marienville. Don will always be remembered as a quiet and kind man who never raised his voice and was always first to offer help to anyone in need. His loving and caring spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his sons, Thomas K. Holliday and wife, Linda, of Greenville, Gale Deroy Holliday and wife, Robin, of New Castle, and James A. Holliday, of Rimersburg; daughter, Barbara Renee Hedglin, of Hermitage; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Sack and husband, Tony, of Boyers.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife of 59 years, Bertha "Sue" E. (Mortimer) Holliday, who died October 5, 2006; brothers, Archie L., Samuel and Clair Holliday; and sisters, Verda Jackson and Esther Watterson.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home, 758 Main St., Rimersburg, PA.

Additional visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at the funeral home with the Rev. Brock Beveridge officiating. Full military honors presented by the Rimersburg American Legion Post 454 and the VFW Post 7132 will immediately follow the service.

Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage, PA.

Memorial contributions may be made in Don's honor to the Clarion Forest VNA Hospice, 271 Perkins Rd., Clarion, PA 16214.
