Mildred A. "Mitzi" Ellermeyer

Mildred A. "Mitzi" Ellermeyer, 91, of Kittanning, PA, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2023 at the Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 31, 1932 at home in Kittanning to James Ellermeyer, Sr. and Mildred (McGrath) Ellermeyer.

Mitzi was a lifelong resident of Kittanning and the last living Ellermeyer in Kittanning for over 200 years. She graduated from Kittanning High School in 1949 and later earned an associate's degree at New Kensington Commercial College. Prior to raising her family, she worked in the optical department at Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Ford City. From 1979 to 1983, Mitzi was a co-owner of Ford City's Lamppost Restaurant. She later worked at the Armstrong County Court House, first spending five years at the Office of Veterans Affairs and then 11 years at the switchboard and County Commissioner's office until her retirement in 2001. Mitzi was member of St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, the September Club and the Richard G. Snyder YMCA where she participated in the Silver Sneakers and aqua exercise three times a week.

Since her retirement she kept active walking daily through the park, traveling with her sisters, Doris and Rosemary three times a year, Florida in the winter, Smith Mountain Lake in the summer, and Las Vegas in October. She lived in Kittanning all of her life and over 65 years in the same house. Other places were nice to visit but she had no desire to live anywhere else, Kittanning was home. Mitzi was an avid reader and took advantage of the Kittanning library, reading daily and loved her Monday night Scrabble games. She enjoyed organizing and attending with much pleasure, her Class of 1949 monthly luncheons. She planned and continued the family reunion tradition at Falcon Park, where she will be sadly missed this year.

Her memory will be cherished by her sons, James G. Contrael, Andrew "Rusty" Contrael and wife, Brenda, and T. Kipp Contrael and wife, Gretchen; daughters, Jayne Koster and husband, Dr. Lee Koster, all of Kittanning, Mitzi Stull and husband, James, of Rimer, Teri Ochs and husband, Robert, of Mars, Jodi R. Walker and husband, William, and Lisa M. Stolitza and husband, Darren, all of Kittanning; grandchildren, Jessica, Ashley, Cheyenne, Megan, Amanda, Casey, Klaus Dieter, Andrew, Jurgen, Heinz "Willy", Becca, Jamie, Kade, Malayna, Jensen, and Lukas; seven great-grandsons; seven great-granddaughters; two great-great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James H. Contrael; brothers, James W. Ellermeyer, Jr., Thomas H. Ellermeyer, Edward Albert Ellermeyer, Gerald T. Ellermeyer and Charles W. Ellermeyer; sisters, Rosemary Waters and Doris Krizmanich; and one great-great-grandson.

The family will receive friends from 4 - 8 PM on Monday, May 22, 2023 at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning, PA.

A Funeral Mass will take place at 10 AM on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 101 W. High St., Kittanning, with The Very Reverend Eric J. Dinga, V.F. as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Kittanning, PA.
