Charles F. Gillespie, Sr.

Charles F. Gillespie, Sr. 84, of Shelocta PA, passed away January 18, 2022 at his home.

He was born September 1, 1937 in Shay, Armstrong Co., PA, the son of George and Mildred (Hankey) Gillespie.

Charles spent most of his life in Armstrong County. He worked for Plumcreek Township as an equipment operator until his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed square dancing with the Jamie Jammers and various groups. Charles enjoyed being outside and could often be found fishing and camping.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Gladys (McElhattan) Gillespie, whom he married on May 23, 1959; sons, Charles F. "Chip" Gillespie, Jr. of Altoona, Jason T. Gillespie of Shelocta; daughters Tammy J. Gillespie of Shelocta, Vicki S. Wallje of Whitesburg; grandchildren, Alaina Harkleroad, Nathan Gillespie, Keith (Jessie) Wallje, Melissa (Brent) Wadding; great-grandchildren, Launa and Mrata Wadding, and Jakob and Bennett Wallje; and brother Melvin Heffelfinger of Whitesburg.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Paul and Marlin Gillespie; and his sister, Georgia Richard.

Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of services at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21, 2022 at Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 238 South Main Street, Elderton, PA with the Rev. Barbara Love officiating.
