Bauer Funeral Home offers "Hope for the Season" to the community

The Bauer Family Funeral Homes will host a free Holiday Remembrance Program entitled, “Hope for the Season.” This very special presentation will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 2 PM at the Bauer Funeral Home, 515 North McKean Street in Kittanning.

Kelli Connolly, BS, CGRS, Bereavement Coordinator for Lutheran SeniorLife VNA of Western Pennsylvania, will offer guidance on remembering loved ones and dealing with the sometimes overwhelming combination of grief and stress that can occur during the holidays.

The public is encouraged to attend this special holiday remembrance and bereavement support program. Reservations are requested but not required and there is no admission fee. Light refreshments will be served following the program. Please contact the staff at Bauer Family Funeral Homes at 724-545-9464 to advise us the number of guests who will be attending.

On Friday, October 21st, join Bauer Steps Ahead for a four-hour fall foliage riverboat cruise on the Gateway Clipper that will showcase the colorful autumn landscape and picturesque Pittsburgh skyline. Once aboard, a delicious buffet-style luncheon will be served, followed by entertainment featuring Jason Swauger, a former Radio City Music Hall performer.

Attendees will meet at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home in Rimersburg at 7:45 a.m. and at the Bauer Funeral Home in Kittanning for bus transportation to Pittsburgh at 8:45 a.m. The cost is $100 for bus transportation, cruise, lunch buffet and show. Bauer Steps Ahead and Bauer-Hillis Steps Ahead to see performance of “Big River” at Strand Theater

Join Bauer Steps Ahead and Bauer-Hillis Steps Ahead on Sunday, September 25th for the musical production “Big River” at the Strand Theater in Zelienople. This live musical extravaganza is based on Mark Twain’s 1884 timeless classic novel, “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.” Among the 30 cast members of this seven-time Tony Award-winning production, some have Broadway and national tour credentials. The story and songs, along with live musical accompaniment, will sweep you down the mighty Mississippi.

After the show, the group will stop for dinner at Hartmann’s Waterhole Restaurant in Harmony. Entrees include Stuffed Chicken Breast, Stuffed Pork Chop or Baked White Fish. All meals are served with tossed salad, baked potato, vegetable, rolls, Dutch apple pie with ice cream, coffee, tea, ice tea or soft drink.

Bauer Funeral Home to participate in the 2016 Armstrong County Senior Expo

State Senator Don White, State Representative Jeff Pyle and State Representative Donna Oberlander will again be hosting the Armstrong County Senior Expo. This year’s expo will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from 10 AM - 1 PM at the Kittanning Township Volunteer Fire Department, 13126 State Route 422, Kittanning.

The Senior Expo hosts many exhibitors made up of local organizations, businesses and health associations, as well as state and federal agencies. These groups are participating in the informational day with the hope of aiding local senior citizens with various concerns and interests. There is no fee to attend the expo and it is a great opportunity for local senior citizens to learn about services available to them. The exhibitors are well prepared to answer questions and offer advice specific to their fields. Last year’s Senior Expo was attended by over 50 exhibitors and more than 300 visitors.

The professional and friendly staff from Bauer Funeral Home will be one of the exhibitors available to answer any questions or concerns you may have about pre-planning funeral arrangements, cremation options, traditional funeral options, cemetery monuments and bereavement information. Brochures and other literature will also be available to take so that attendees can have guidance when making decisions.

Throughout the day, there will be many free give-a-ways and door prizes awarded courtesy of all the exhibitors, and the hosts will provide refreshments for all. In addition to stopping by Bauer Funeral Home’s exhibit, you can enter our own door prize drawings. Bauer Family Funeral Homes will be giving away a gift certificate to a local restaurant and two fall floral arrangements donated by Darlene’s Flower and Gift Shop of Elderton and Kimberly’s Floral and Design of Kittanning.

Join Bauer Steps Ahead and Bauer-Hillis Steps Ahead on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 for a dinner theatre performance of “Driving Miss Daisy” at the Riverside Inn in Cambridge Springs! Experience the charm of this beautifully restored historic inn that sits on the banks of French Creek and has been in continuous operation since 1885. This warm-hearted and humorous play chronicles the unlikely relationship between an aging, crotchety, white Southern lady and a proud, soft-spoken, African-American man who is hired as her chauffer after she is deemed unable drive. Over the years, their relationship begins to transcend hostile and social boundaries and soon blossoms into a friendly bond. Prior to the show lunch will be served. The menu includes fresh salad, an entrée, dessert and beverage.

Bauer Steps Ahead and Bauer-Hillis Steps Ahead to enjoy a night out seeing River City Brass

On Sunday, July 10, 2016, Bauer Steps Ahead and Bauer-Hillis Steps Ahead will travel to Concordia in Cabot for an early evening patio concert featuring the popular Pittsburgh-based band, River City Brass. RCB has conducted concerts at home and abroad, and has also appeared on TV shows. This is a great opportunity to hear the band up-close where you’ll be energized by their musical excellence. The concert will be moved indoors if there is inclement weather.

Before the concert, the group will have dinner at the J-Barn Country Inn in Sarver. Entre selections are Outdoor Grilled and Baked Pork Cutlets with an apple glaze, Baked Ham or Roasted Turkey. All meals are served with mashed potatoes, stuffing, a vegetable, banana bread with apple butter, rolls, dessert, coffee, tea or ice tea.

Bauer Steps Ahead and Bauer-Hillis Steps Ahead attendees enjoy lunch and an exciting performance at Heinz Hall On Saturday, April 30, 2016, Bauer Steps Ahead and Bauer-Hillis Steps Ahead traveled to Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh to see a performance of Cirque de la Symphonie! Before the featured entertainment, attendees stopped for lunch at Cooper Station Restaurant in Sarver. Everyone raved about the exceptionable service and delicious slow-roasted beef pot roast and chicken marsala entrées served in the private dining room. A classic model train that ran through the entire restaurant and above the seating area, along with the friendly staff, made for a pleasant atmosphere.

At Heinz Hall, premium seats awaited the group. The Cirque aerial flyers, acrobats, contortionists, dancers, juggles, balancers and strongmen added a stunning and exciting visual performance that was perfectly choreographed to classic masterpieces by the Pittsburgh Symphonie Orchestra.

On Thursday, May 26th, Bauer Steps Ahead and Bauer-Hillis Steps Ahead will travel to the Lakeview Inn in Greensburg to see a performance by “Ireland’s Happy Man,” Cahal Dunne! Cahal is well known as a singer of traditional Irish ballads, popular Broadway numbers and country hits. He is also a talented composer, classically trained concert pianist, storyteller, comedian and television personality, and has released a number of albums. Cahal has performed on stage with Bob Hope, Al Martino and Tony Orlando, and has performed for several American Presidents. A great show is guaranteed!

Prior to the show, a delicious hot lunch will be served in the formal ballroom. The menu includes tossed green salad, chicken parmesan, roasted potatoes, green beans, apple pie, coffee, tea and iced tea.

This show is full of the most amazing cirque acts that have ever been performed worldwide. Some of the best aerial flyers, acrobats, dancers, balancers and jugglers in the world will share the stage with the full Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra has perfectly choreographed each act to classical musical masterpieces, adding energy and excitement to the performance.

Nicole Ulisky, the enthusiastic owner/instructor of Spark Art Parties will bring out your self-expression and creativity by showing you how to create your own painting. Even if you have no artistic talent, expect to have a fun and entertaining experience and leave with your own personal masterpiece. Afterwards, lunch from A Mano Pasta in Ford City will be served while your artwork is drying.
