Frances H. Snyder

Frances H. (Houser) Snyder, age 83, of Kittanning, PA passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2014, at her home.

She was born on February 9, 1931 in Goheenville to Robert D. and Gladys J. (Kuhns) Houser.

A graduate of Kittanning High School in 1949, where she was valedictorian, and Duff's Business College in 1951, she worked as a secretary for Gulf Oil Corporation in Pittsburgh until her marriage to D. Carl Snyder on September 28, 1956. Mrs. Snyder resided for 44 years in Snyderville, Wayne Township, before moving to West Kittanning in 2000.

Frances was a member of the Jerusalem Lutheran Church of New Bethlehem, where over the years, she had been active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary Society, Vacation Bible Schools, Sunday School, and Bible Study groups. More recently, she also attended Faith Presbyterian Church of Kittanning. At various times during her life, she served as a judge of elections for Wayne Township and volunteered with the Dayton 4-H Club and at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.

Following her husband's retirement, they traveled frequently, visiting all 48 continental states. Frances also loved spending time with her family, eating out, and reading.

Her memory will be cherished by her two daughters, Lynne A. Snyder of Indiana, PA, and Beth E. McAfoose and husband, Brian, of Kittanning; two granddaughters, Sarah E. McAfoose of Bloomington, IN, and Amanda M. McAfoose of Kittanning; a brother, Robert J. Houser and wife, Lois, of Templeton; a brother-in-law, Harry W. Snyder; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Dorothy B. Houser; her loving husband of 43 years, D. Carl Snyder who died October 26, 1999; and a sister, Betty J. Snyder.

Relatives and friends may visit from 10-11 AM on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 2489 Angus Road, New Bethlehem, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM with the Rev. Ralph Kilgore officiating.

Interment will follow at Jerusalem Lutheran Cemetery, New Bethlehem, PA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Frances' memory to the American Cancer Society, Armstrong Unit, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205.
