Jean M. Schaeffer

Jean M. Schaeffer, 73, of Kittanning, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.

She was born December 5, 1939 in Kittanning, the daughter of George N. and Eva Ruth (McPherson) Shaffer.

Jean called Kittanning her home for her entire life and graduated from Kittanning High School in 1957. Until her retirement in 2005, she worked as the bookkeeper for Valray Nurseries, Inc., which she and her husband owned. She also owned and operated Jean's Ceramics, teaching classes for many years. Jean was the Armstrong County Representative for the Lupus Foundation of America and a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church of Kittanning.

Jean had many creative hobbies, but will be especially remembered for her porcelain doll and thimble collections. She also was an accomplished seamstress-a talent she worked at perfecting since the first grade. Though Jean made many beautiful pieces through the years, she was most proud of wedding dresses she made for each of her daughters. Family was extremely important to Jean and her love and devotion to them all will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish her memory are her dedicated, loving husband of 54 years, Robert M. Schaeffer, who she married on October 10, 1958; sons, William Schaeffer and wife, Melissa, of Kittanning and Brian Schaeffer and wife, Catherine, of California; daughters, Sue Hankey and husband, Robert, of Kittanning, Audrey Green and husband, Bernard, of Kittanning and Patricia Heasley, of Bethel Park; grandchildren, Jeff Hankey, Valerie Kachur, Natalie Vandevort, Tony Green, Derek Green, Eric Heasley, Benjie Heasley, Miles Heasley, Dylan Schaeffer, Kathryn Schaeffer, Summer Schaeffer and Wolfgang Schaeffer; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, George E. Shaffer and wife, Ruth Ann, of Kittanning.

She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Annelyse Heasley.

Family and friends will be received from 7-9 PM on Friday, April 5, 2013 at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc, 515 N. McKean Street, Kittanning.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church of Kittanning, 301 N. Jefferson St., Kittanning, with the Rev. Jackie Bish and Rev. Dr. Allyn Ricketts co-officiating.

Burial will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington, Pennsylvania.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Kittanning, 301 N. Jefferson St., Kittanning, PA 16201.
