Christopher D. Kimmel
Christopher D. Kimmel, 81, of Shelocta, PA passed away on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025, at St. Andrews Village in Indiana, PA.He was born on Dec. 3, 1943 in Indiana, PA; to Willard H. and Evelyn (Judson) Kimmel.
Chris was a 1961 graduate of Elderton High School and earned his bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology from Penn State University. He was a devoted member of Plumcreek Church of the Brethren, where he faithfully served in various leadership roles. From 1965 to 1967, Chris performed mission work in Vietnam through the church as a conscientious objector. During that time, he taught agriculture to local farmers and he often said they were the best two years of his life.
Chris had a lifelong passion for farming, raising corn, soybeans, and beef cattle. He was an active member of the Elderton Young Farmers and served in several leadership positions with the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. He also served as a director of the Pennsylvania Corn Growers Association and was honored with the Pennsylvania Master Farmer Award in 1990. Chris was very involved and actively promoted Heifer International. He also served on the board of directors at Elderton State Bank.
He will be lovingly remembered for his generosity and willingness to help others.
His memory will be cherished by his loving wife, Judith (Meyers) Kimmel, his sons, Andrew C. Kimmel and wife, Erin of Shelocta and Peter T. Kimmel and wife, Elizabeth of Kittanning; grandchildren, Benjamen Kimmel, Emily Bush and husband, Matthew, and Noah, Nathaniel and Asher Kimmel.
Chris is also survived by his brothers, Alfred Kimmel and wife, Barbara of Elderton and Phillip Kimmel and wife, Linda of Louisville, KY; and a sister, Kathleen Strang of Battle Creek, MI.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Judson Kimmel; and an infant sister, Cynthia C. Kimmel.
Friends and family will be received from 11 AM until the time of services at 2 PM on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025 at Plumcreek Church of the Brethren, 3087 Dutch Run Rd., Shelocta, PA 15774 with Pastor Eric Longwell officiating.
Interment will be in Elderton Cemetery, Elderton, PA.
