Genevieve R. ''Ginger'' Smith

Genevieve R. "Ginger" Smith, age 89, of Kittanning, died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice Center, Butler.

She was born on December 17, 1922 in Tarrtown, Armstrong Co., PA and lived her entire life in the Kittanning area.

After high school, she worked at the former KenMax Inn where she met William J. "Bud" Smith whom she soon married. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked at the former Thorofare Market in West Kittanning for 20 years. She was a faithful member of the Grace Brethren Church in West Kittanning for over 50 years. She was a member of the Gospel Light Sunday School class, a patroness of the Sisters of Mary and Martha, a teacher in the nursery school, secretary of the Crusade Band, and devoted member of a prayer circle.

Ginger and Bud loved traveling in their RV and visited Canada and every state except for one. She enjoyed playing table games, cooking, baking cakes and pies, and spending time with family, friends, and children. Her love and dedication to her husband and son were known by all who knew her, as was her friendliness toward everyone she met.

She will be deeply missed by her husband of 70 years, William J. Smith, whom she married May 30, 1941; a son, William R. Smith and wife, Andrea, of Glen Allen, VA; grandson, Nicholas Siedentop; granddaughter, Kathryn Amberston and husband Jordan, of Glen Allen, VA; great-grandchildren, William and Sophia Amberston, of Glen Allen, VA; two sisters, Gretchen A. Bull and husband, Gerald, of DeFuniak Springs, FL and Beatrice Ritchey, of Kittanning.

Ginger was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert H. and Phenomenal (Silvis) Baker; brothers, George, Stanley, and Delbert, Jr. Baker; and sisters, Esther Baker, Judith Greer and Dolores Mohney.

At Ginger's request, funeral services will be private.

Burial will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington, Armstrong Co., PA.

Memorial contributions may be made in Ginger's honor to a charity of one's choice.
