John M. BugayJohn M. Bugay, 80, of Dayton, PA, passed away Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018, at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born Oct. 2, 1938 in Gipsy, PA, the son of Joseph and Anna (Koker) Bugay.
John graduated from Purchase Line High School and was a resident of the Dayton area for most of his life. He worked as a machinist at Fisher Scientific in Indiana and was a member of St. Mary, Mother of God Parish in Yatesboro. John belonged to the Greek Catholic Union and for over 40 years served on the board for Copenhaver Crossroads Cemetery.
Known as the community handyman, John never hesitated to help his neighbors when needed and was proud to have passed his gifts on to his grandchildren. He loved spending time in nature and could often be found hunting, fishing or working on the family farm. John also enjoyed working in his apple orchard and made delicious apple cider and apple wine. He will be best remembered for telling stories from the past and was happiest when with his family.
His memory will be cherished by his loving wife, Linda K. (Brocious) Bugay, whom he married April 12, 1969; son, Mark A. Brocious and fiancée, Jolena, of New Bethlehem; daughters, Marsha K. Rearick and husband, Rob, of Dayton, PA, and Diane R. Tatsak and husband, Brad, of Worthington; grandchildren, Winston, Quintin, Cody and wife, Molly, Zane and fiancée, Jordan, Jace and Sydney, Owen, Malyea, Aunyka, Adam and wife, Leah, and Abby; great-grandchildren, Kali, Kipton and Blake; brothers, Joseph Bugay and wife, Norma, of Rossiter, and Father Stephen Bugay, of Blairsville; and sisters, Mary Dudek, of Gipsy, Margaret Yanik, of Asheville, NC, Dorothy Jablunovsky and husband, Philip, of Indiana, PA, Betty Bugay, of Gipsy, and Susan Worth and husband, Paul, of Quitman, GA.
John was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Mike and George Bugay.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, at Bauer-Bly Funeral Home, 125 E. Main St., Dayton, PA.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, at St. Mary, Mother of God Parish, 109 Second St., Yatesboro, PA, with his brother, the Rev. Stephen R. Bugay, and the Reverend Douglas E. Dorula concelebrating.
Interment will be in Copenhaver Crossroads Cemetery, Dayton, PA.
