Dixie L. Kirkwood

Dixie L. Kirkwood, 68, of Ford City, PA, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Allegheny General Hospital.

She was born July 19, 1949 in Kittanning, PA the daughter of Robert V. and Anna Marie (Contrael) Thiry.

Dixie lived in Armstrong County all of her life and graduated from Kittanning High School in 1967. Throughout her life, she worked at Big River Manufacturing, Klingensmith NCS and Klingensmith Pharmacy in West Kittanning, and as a coffee hostess at the Sheetz in Manor Township. Dixie was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ.

Her favorite hobbies included golfing, knitting and working on crafts. Dixie created beautiful silk flower arrangements and enjoyed working in her flower gardens. She also had many fond memories from her travels to Punta Gorda with her husband, Robert. Dixie's willingness to help others and her refusal to speak ill of others will always be remembered by those who knew her.

Her memory will be cherished by her loving husband, Robert R. Kirkwood, whom she married July 5, 1969; sons, Robert R. Kirkwood, Jr. and wife, Tanya, of Butler, and Michael K. Kirkwood and companion, Amanda Hart, of Ford City; daughter, Trisha M. Smail and husband, Richard, of Ford City; grandchildren, Logan and Alex Kirkwood, and Payton and Paige Smail; brothers, Robert Thiry and wife, Becky, of West Middlesex, Ronald Thiry and wife, Margie, of Harrisville, Larry Thiry and wife, Lorraine, of Ford City, and Mark Thiry, of Richfield, OH; sister, Christine Boylstein and husband, Joe, of Ford City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dixie was predeceased by her parents.

Relatives and friends will be received from 2-4 PM and 6 PM until the time of funeral services at 8 PM on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning, with the Rev. Ed Walters and Rev. John Snyder co-officiating.
