Garnet E. Craig

Garnet E. Craig, 94, of West Monterey, PA, passed away Monday, June 5, 2017, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca, PA.

She was born April 17, 1923 in Barger Hollow, Clarion Co., PA, the daughter of Clyde and Dessie (Barger) Gallagher.

Garnet was a lifelong resident of Clarion County and dedicated her life to caring for her family. She kept busy with gardening, canning, baking and cooking, and looked forward to when the family would gather for dinner on Sunday and during the holidays. Her family especially loved her delicious bread and coconut cream pies.

Garnet loved music and started playing the guitar with her husband, Tom, while getting together with friends. Through the years they used their talents to entertain at weddings, anniversaries, birthday parties and square dances, and even played at Paradise Park in Cowansville on the day that Tammy Wynette and Box Car Willie were the star performers.

Traveling was another one of her interests and she, along with her husband, visited many different places, creating many wonderful memories. She formerly attended Dutch Hill Church of God and enjoyed reading and writing letters to friends. Garnet's gentle spirit and sense of humor will always be cherished, but she will be most remembered by the deep love she had for her family.

She will be deeply missed by her sons, Carl T. Craig and wife, Gloria, of Shippenville, Nelson E. Craig and wife, Karen, of Shippenville, and Daniel R. Craig and wife, Sylvia, of Sligo; daughters, C. Diane Cratty, of Parker, Donna F. Blauser and husband, David, of Parker, and Bonnie J. Elder and husband, Alex, of Callensburg; 19 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren;

Garnet was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Thomas Morton Craig, whom she married March 14, 1940 and who died June 24, 2008; son-in-law, Larry Cratty, who died February 22, 2014; grandson, Ryan T. Craig, who died April 24, 2008; brothers, Merle and Forrest Gallagher; and sisters, Jewel Custer and Aline Cratty.
