Ilse Elfriede Ohler

Ilse Elfriede Ohler, 90, of Shelocta, PA, passed away Friday, January 13, 2017 at Grey's Colonial Acres.

She was born on August 28, 1926 in Bad Harzburg, Germany, the daughter of Frederick and Emma (Engstfeld) Schurig.

Ilse joined the Mills Brothers Circus at age 16, where she was a performer and acrobat. She traveled with the circus throughout Europe and the United Stated until 1950, when she married Ellsworth Ohler. After marriage, Ilse dedicated herself to caring for her home and children. She was of the Lutheran faith.

She is survived by her sons, Ellsworth H. Ohler, of Shelocta, Robert F. Ohler, of Butler, Stephen J. Ohler, of Shelocta, George R. Ohler and wife, Doris, of Greensburg, Charles N. Ohler, of Johnstown, and Michael J. Ohler and wife, Doreen, of Snowshoe; daughters, Margaret Danko, of Warren, Ohio, Susan L. Ohler, of Shelocta, and Eleanor Haggerty and husband, Ronald, of Creekside; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Clarence "Monty" Graham, of Palm Harbor, FL.

Ilse was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Ellsworth Ohler, whom she married November 13, 1950 and who died December 13, 1972; sons, Thomas Richard Ohler, who died March 28, 1998, and Patrick Ohler, who died November 9, 1977; daughter, Katherine L. "Kate" Graham, who died December 19, 2016; brothers, Herbert Schurig and Wolfgang Schurig; and sister, Ilkea Gessler.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM on Monday, January 16, 2017 at Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home, 238 S. Main St., Elderton, PA.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Vaughn Taylor officiating.

Burial will be in South Bend Cemetery, Shelocta, PA.
