Ernest W. "Ernie" Higham, 72, of Kittanning, PA, passed away on Friday, Jan. 27, 2023 at the VA Medical Center in Butler, PA.

He was born Sept. 21, 1950, in Dayton, OH, the son of Ernest and Opal (Harden) Higham.

Ernest grew up near Dayton, OH and honorably served in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a longtime resident of Armstrong County and was a life member of Disabled American Veterans. Ernest also served as the past VFW District Commander for Armstrong, Indiana and Cambria Counties, and the past Chairman for PA Homeless Veterans. He enjoyed woodworking, watching NASCAR races and the Cincinnati Bengals.

Ernest is survived by his son, Jeffrey Higham of Dayton, OH; daughter, Jennifer Higham, of West Milton, OH, and Charity Edwards, his caregiver who was like a daughter to him, of Freeport. He is also survived by his brother, Woody Higham and wife, Joyce, of Ocala, FL; sister, Ree Jackson and husband, Gary, of Apollo Beach, FL; special friend, Ada Cashin of Kittanning, PA; and best buddy and companion, his Pug Barney.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife, Joyce E. Higham, whom he married June 12, 2003 and who died December 26, 2015.

At Ernest's request, services will be private.

Interment will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington, PA.
