Patricia Joan "Patty" GrayPatricia Joan "Patty" Gray, of Dallas, GA, formerly of Kittanning, PA, passed away the 28th day of December 2020, at The Pearl of Dallas Memory Care.
She was born December 17, 1936 in Kittanning, PA, the daughter of Herman and Lois Mae (Wolfe) George.
Patty was raised in Kittanning and graduated from Kittanning High School. She was close with her family and shared their love of horses. Patty earned her bachelor's degree in education and master's degree in home economics from Marietta College in Marietta, OH, and began her teaching career at Williams Avenue Elementary School in Cincinnati. She married her high school sweetheart, John W. Gray, in 1956. After relocating to Boston, MA with John in the late 1960s, they started their family.
Patty and John returned home to Kittanning in the early 1970s, assuming ownership of the Friendship Plaza Motel and opening Ye Olde Hitching Post Restaurant. They also operated Friendship Estates real estate rentals until their retirement.
Patty had a strong faith and was a dedicated member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She participated in adult Sunday school classes, ladies' retreats and children's programs. Patty was an avid herb gardener and enjoyed painting, going to the theater and traveling. Holidays and birthdays were very important to her and she always went out of her way to make every occasion special. Most of all, Patty cherished time with her family and was a devoted wife and mother.
Patty will be deeply missed by her loving husband, John W. Gray, of Dallas, GA; son, John W. Gray, Jr. and wife, Beth, of Roswell, GA; daughter, Robin Dubord and husband, Scott, of Smyrna, GA; grandchildren, Lindsay and Cameron Gray, and Katherine Dubord; and brother, Bob George and wife, Joan, of Kittanning.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Duane George.
A memorial service will be held at a future date at St. John's Lutheran Church, 218 N. Jefferson St., Kittanning. An announcement will be made of the date.
