Ruth L. Rumbaugh

Ruth L. Rumbaugh, 91, of Dayton, PA, passed away Monday, December 17, 2018, at UPMC Montefiore.

She was born April 5, 1927, the daughter of Harry F. and Hazel M. (McQuilkin) Rumbaugh.

Ruth was a graduate of Dayton High School and after high school pursued her dream of becoming a teacher by attending the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in education. Teaching children was her passion, and her knowledge and kind disposition were appreciated by the countless children whose lives she touched spanning her 40 years as a first grade teacher at Dayton Elementary School.

Ruth's talents extended far beyond teaching. She liked flowers and greatly enjoyed tending to her rose garden. Her love of travel and adventure took her to every state within the United States and to Europe. She was a member of Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon. Her other memberships included the PSEA, Dayton Historical Society, Punxsutawney Chapter of the Eastern Star #72 and Dayton Camera Club. She was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post #995 for 71 years and had recently received an award for being the oldest living member. Ruth was a grand lady of wisdom and humor in speech and in action. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and be remembered for the many lives she inspired.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her sister-in-law, Margaret Rumbaugh, of Greensburg; nieces, Julie Fleming and husband, Terry, of Dayton, PA, Kathi Davis and husband, Mike of Coraopolis, and Suzy Maga and husband, Rick, of Greensburg; nephews, Jerry L. McIntire and wife, Nancy, of Dayton, PA, Donald Rumbaugh and wife, Suzanne, of Grove City, and John "Jack" Rumbaugh and wife, Billie, of Washington, DC; great-nephews, Jason L. Fleming, of Dayton, PA, and Joshua P. McIntire, of Delaware; and other great-nieces and great-nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; twin siblings, William F. Rumbaugh and Betty J. McIntire; and niece, Judy McIntire.

Relatives and friends may visit from 4-7 PM on Thursday, December 20, 2018, at the Bauer-Bly Funeral Home, Inc, 125 East Main Street, Dayton.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Friday, December 21, 2018, at the funeral home, with Pastor Sheila Wadding officiating.

Interment will be in Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Cemetery, Dayton, PA.
