Harold "Dale" Claypool
Harold "Dale" Claypool, 85, of Ford City, PA, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 26, 1932 in Plumcreek Twp., Armstrong Co., PA, the son of Charles and Jenny (Dunmire) Claypool.
Dale was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of St. Michaels Lutheran Church, Ford City, where he served on the council for several years. He made and provided communion wine for the church. He honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion and the Elderton Lions Club. He was also a member and past treasurer of the Cherry Run Sportsmen's Club where he helped with turkey shoots and took handicapped children fishing down at Crooked Creek. Dale was a member of the Burrell Township Volunteer Fire Department where he played cards with the "grumpy old men" for a number of years.
He spent his summers at the Dayton Fair in the sportsmen's building selling 50/50 raffle tickets. He helped make apple butter to sell at the fire hall. Dale was also a member of the sportsmen and conservation league. Prior to his retirement in 1997, he worked at Allegheny Ludlum Steel.
Dale enjoyed mowing the grass and riding his golf cart and giving rides to his great-grandchildren. He liked reading the newspaper and western books, and loved going out to eat. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. His family was well loved by him and he will best be remembered as being a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
His memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 60 years, Kathleen (Schall) Claypool, with whom he just celebrated sixty years of marriage with on January 23rd; sons, Bob Claypool and wife, Jenny, of Ford City, Keith Claypool and partner, Mike Casey, of Tarentum; daughter, Teresa Wright and husband, Darrell, of Ford City; seven grandchildren, Shaun Wright and wife, Chris, Michelle Fisher and husband, Shawn, Ashley Sirochman and husband, Steve, Crystal Enterline and husband, Codey, Melissa Claypool, Lanette Nesbitt and husband, TJ, and Melissa Feidler and husband, Jason; fifteen great-grandchildren, Sophie and Derek Wright, Curtis and Morgan Fisher, Tyler and Natalie Sirochman, Sadie and Caleb Enterline, Drew and Josh Cravener, Kody and Kenzey Nesbitt, and Alexis, Max, and Brooke Feidler; one great-great-grandson, Oliver Cravener; and four sisters, Mildred King and husband, Ward, of Kittanning, Geraldine Caruso and husband, Mike, of Ford City, Linda Willyard and husband, Bill, of Kittanning, Kathleen Boyer and husband, Bernard, of Elderton.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Milford Claypool and Charles "Chuck" Claypool; and three sisters, Twila Uplinger, Alma McKinely, and infant, Leona Claypool.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home, Inc., 238 S. Main St., Elderton, PA, where the Burrell Volunteer Fire Department will hold a fireman's service at 6:45 PM.
Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 2264 Garretts Run Road, Ford City, PA 16226, with the Rev. Barbara Love officiating.
Interment will be in Brick Church Cemetery, Ford City, PA where military honors will be presented by the Armstrong County American Legion Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be given in his honor to the Burrell Volunteer Fire Department, 108 Cochrans Mill Road, Ford City, PA 16226.
