Bernice L. Hawk-Simpson

Bernice L. Hawk-Simpson, 90, of Rimersburg, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Butler Memorial Hospital, with her family at her side.

Born December 22, 1927, in Maple Grove, Madison Township, she was the fifth of 12 children born to the late Ralph E. Switzer, Sr. and Velma V. (Fowler) Switzer.

Bernice was a graduate of Rimersburg High School and was employed by the former Archway Davis Cookie Company from 1962 to 1991. She was of the Protestant faith, having attended the Sandy Hollow and Sligo Methodist Churches during her life time. Bernice was best known for her work ethic, strong will and high-level of independence, which she maintained until just weeks before her passing. She took pride in the upkeep of her home.

Bernice was first married to William R. Hawk on April 14, 1949. He preceded her in death on January 8, 1954. She later married Kenneth Dean Simpson on June 20, 1992 and he preceded her in death on April 15, 2009.

Bernice will be deeply missed by her sons, Ricky R. Hawk and wife, Mary Ellen, of Fenelton, and Reynold P. Hawk, of Ocala, FL; grandchildren, Ricky J. Hawk, of Rimersburg, Tammy L. (Hawk) Dunmyre and husband, Terry, of Fenelton, Paula J. (Hawk) Davis and husband, Justin, of Rimersburg, Reynold P. Hawk, Jr., of Roanoke, VA, and M. Suzanne Hawk, of Ocala, FL; great-grandchildren, Tyler Swoboda and wife, Courtney, of Carter Lake, IA, Noah and Landon Hawk, of Rimersburg, Collin, Carter, and Corry Dunmyre, of Fenelton, Mackenna, Cole, and Luke Davis, of Rimersburg, Amanda Lombardo, of Aldine, VA, and Brayden Hawk, of Ocala, FL; great-great-grandson, Lathen Swoboda, of Carter Lake, IA; sisters, Janet Greenawalt and husband, John, of Erie, Patty Elder, of East Brady, Gloria Kriebel, of Anderson, IN, Bonnie Pensenstadler and husband, Wayne, of Pinehurst, NC, Jane Fraley, of Orchard Park, NY, and Sue Mohney, of Hawthorn; and several nieces, nephews, and their families.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Bernice was preceded in death by her sisters, Martha Patton and Pauline Myers, and brothers, Ralph Switzer, Jr. and Jack Switzer, and most recently, her brother and neighbor, Donald "Blondie" Switzer.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 758 Main St., Rimersburg, PA.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Deeter officiating.

Interment will be in Rimersburg Cemetery, Rimersburg, PA.
