Eugene Clair "Bum" Simpson, 92, of Butler, PA, formerly of Rimersburg, PA, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018 at VA Butler Healthcare Center.

He was born December 27, 1925 in Rimersburg, PA, the son of Bruce and Mary (Gorman) Simpson.

Eugene honorably served in the US Army during World War II where he had been wounded at the "Battle of the Bulge" and received a purple heart. For many years, he worked at Pullman Standard of Butler in the shear department. During Bum's younger years prior to joining the service, he was a talented baseball player and was once drafted by the Detroit Tigers. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family.

He will be remembered with love by his son, Eugene C. Simpson, Jr. and wife, Sandy, of Rimersburg; daughters, Pamala M. Brown and husband, Robert, of Rimersburg, and Sherry J. Brown and husband, William, of Connellsville and their daughter, Taylor and friend, Josh of Finleyville; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; brother, John Simpson, of Huey; and sister, Lynn Ganoe and husband, Bernie, of Clarion.

Bum was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Julia Maxine (Wiles) Simpson, who died September 27, 2010; son, Ricky Allen Simpson; two great-grandchildren, Courtney Dawn Barger and Edward Robert Barger; brothers, Ed, Pete, Jack, Jim, Larry and Eric Simpson; sisters, June Divins, Sally Kriebel, Carol Clark, Mary "Gail" Maxim, Peggy Lou Simpson, and Becky E. Sleigher.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 758 Main St., Rimersburg, PA.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Monday, January 15, 2018 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Deeter officiating.

Interment will be in Rimersburg Cemetery, Rimersburg, PA, where military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 454 and VFW Post 7132.
