William C. Wood

William C. Wood, 90, of Kittanning, PA, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at his residence.

He was born March 23, 1927 in Elderton, PA, the son of William Blaine Wood and Martha (Cribbs) Wood.

Bill was a lifetime resident of the area and attended Elderton High School. He joined the Navy in 1945 and served in Maryland, the Philippines and Norfolk, Virginia. After returning from the war, he was self-employed as a gas well driller for most of his life. Bill was a member of Elderton Presbyterian Church and belonged to many local groups, including the American Legion in Clearfield County, VFW of Ford City, BPO Elks Lodge #203 of Kittanning, Masonic Lodge #805 of Kittanning, New Castle Consistory, Elderton Fire Department and Shelocta Sportsman Club. He owned several harness race horses and loved attending horse races. Bill enjoyed big game hunting, duck hunting and fishing with his friends. He also looked forward to golfing and traveling with his wife to Florida in their motor home.

His memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 70 years, Betty M. (Houser) Wood, whom he married October 28, 1947; daughters, Patty Mellish, of Shelocta, Barbara Spangler, of Kittanning, and Deborah Keeler and husband, Jamie, of Shelocta; grandchildren, Todd Mellish and wife, Holly, Haley Black and husband, Donnie, Troy Wingard and wife, Kelli, Laura Klonowski and husband, Jesse, Alex Spangler and wife, Adriann, Steven Keeler, and Nathan Keeler and wife, Courtney; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard Wood, of Shelocta, and Jerry Wood, of Elderton; and sisters, Glenna Mae Shughart and Linda Shilling, both of Elderton.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert, Ronald, Jack W. and Benjamin Wood; and sister, Sondra Imel.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at the Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home, 238 S. Main St., Elderton, PA.

An additional visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Friday, December 15, 2017, at Elderton Presbyterian Church, 115 N. Main St., Elderton, PA, with the Rev. Alfred Kimmel officiating.

Interment will be at Elderton Cemetery, Elderton, PA.
