Stephen O. "Steve" Stitt

Stephen O. "Steve" Stitt, 78, of Rimersburg, PA, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017 at his residence.

He was born February 16, 1939, the son of Russell and Gladys (Smith) Stitt.

Steve was a lifelong resident of Rimersburg and honorably served in the US Army. He was formerly employed as a laborer at Rex-Hide in East Brady, as a maintenance worker at the Clarion County Home, and as a meat cutter at Country Food Locker, and retired as a meat cutter from Gourley Meat Packing in 2001. Steve also raised beef cattle and was a gifted farmer, electrician and carpenter. He was a hard worker and could build anything he set his mind to.

He was a member of Concord Presbyterian Church in Parker and belonged to the Rimersburg Rod and Gun Club and American Legion Post 454. He enjoyed hunting in his free time and, along with his wife, Alice, loved traveling. Together, they visited many places throughout the world. Steve will be best remembered for being honest and giving truthful answers.

He will be remembered with love by his wife, Alice L. (Summerville) Stitt, whom he married December 29, 1961; sons, Gregory Stitt and wife, Tracy, of Rimersburg, and Joseph Neal Stitt and fiancée, Kathy Nick, of Fairmount City; daughters, Stephanie German and husband, Clint, of Kapolei, HI, and Kelly Burford and husband, Brian, of Clarion; grandchildren, Brandan and Kaden Stitt, Tyler and Josie Stitt, Cori German, and Riley and Alicyn Burford; step-grandchildren, Brian and Aaron Nicklas; great-grandchild, Caysen Baney; sister, Betty Wyman and husband, Jack, of East Brady; sister-in-law, Pat Stitt, of Rimersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Fred and John Stitt; and sisters, Gevenine Mortimer and Shirley Barger.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-8 PM on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 758 Main St., Rimersburg, PA.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Monday, September 18, 2017 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Brian Hauser officiating.

Burial will be in Rimersburg Cemetery, Rimersburg, PA, where military honors will be presented by American Legion Honor Guard Post 454 and VFW Post 7132.
