Howard Clair Woodside, 86, of Worthington, PA, passed away Monday, September 4, 2017 at Kittanning Care Center.

He was born July 16, 1931 in Burrell Twp., Armstrong Co., PA, the son of Glenn Rugh Woodside and Ethel Mary (Huston) Woodside.

Howard was a resident of Armstrong County all of his life and graduated from Kittanning High School in 1949. He honorably served as a sergeant in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War and attended the Lincoln Electric Welding School in Cleveland, OH. Howard previously worked at GM Lime Company in Rural Valley for 12 years as a foreman until 1968 and then worked for 25 years at Penelec as a central control room operator, retiring in March of 1991. After retirement, he began working at the Shriver Bus Company as a bus driver in December of 1991 and stayed for 10 years.

Camping at Tionesta Corps of Engineers was one of his favorite pastimes and for 17 years served as the camp host with his wife, Shirley. He also loved hunting and reloading rifle shells. Howard was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church of Brick Church, and his hard-working and kind spirit will be greatly missed.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley M. (Altmeyer) Woodside, whom he married January 21, 1953; son, Alan D. Woodside and wife, Wendy, of Ford City; daughter, Marcia L. Miller and husband, Ed, of Fremont, OH; granddaughters, Sandy Yurick and husband, Ben, Katie Annaballi and husband, Jeff, Carrie Willis and husband, Brennan, Laura Hafner and husband, Rollin, and Amy Payton and husband, Dana; great-grandchildren, Spencer, Preston, Audrina, Ethan and Caroline; brothers, James A. Woodside and wife, Shirley, and Glenn R. Woodside, Jr. and wife, Diane, all of Ford City; and sisters, Helen A. Kaufman, of Kittanning, and Fay A. Umbaugh and husband, Raymond, of McGrann.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John D. Woodside and Ralph H. Woodside; and sisters, Ina P. Burkett and Mary Alice Schreckengost.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 N. McKean Street, Kittanning, PA.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at St. Michael's Lutheran Church, 2264 Garretts Run Rd., Ford City, PA 16226, with the Rev. Barbara Love and Rev. Ed Miller co-officiating.

Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Ford City, Pennsylvania, where military honors will be presented by the American Legion Honor Guard.
