James S. Bure

James S. Bure, 64, of Ford Cliff, PA, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the Allegheny Health Network Hospice and Palliative Care Program at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, surrounded by his family.

He was born September 27, 1952 in Kittanning, PA, the son of William F. and Florence L. (Hindman) Bure.

Jim worked for Pennsylvanian American Water Company for 23 years as a treatment plant operator and retired in 2000. He graduated from Ford City High School in 1970. In his youth, he played Little League for the Indians and was on the team with his brothers, Bob, Don and Ron. Jim was a shortstop and third base fielder, and was a great hitter during his four years in the Ford City Little League. He was the only person until then that hit the longest homer, in that it went into the VFW lot.

He was also on a junior bowling team at King's Lanes in Kittanning with his brothers, Bob, Don and Ron. The team took districts and competed in the state competition in Harrisburg one year, and also won the league championship a few times. Jim received numerous trophies for high game scores for his age. The trio of brothers was the youngest to go into the men's league at 16-17 years of age. He loved to hunt, fish, tinker in his woodshop, attend family gatherings and, most of all, play with his four grandchildren. Jim will be best remembered for his willingness to help others and for greeting folks with a genuine smile and hello.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Susan Ellen (Harris) Bure; sons, Christopher M. Bure and wife, Regina D. (Artman), of Ford City, and James Frederick Bure and wife, Carole Ann (Hoovler), of Natrona Heights; daughter, Rebecca Suzanne Shaw and husband, David Lee, of Leeper; grandchildren, Kolton, Luke and Mason Shaw, and Joshua Bure; brothers, Robert Alan Bure and wife, Constance (Shoemaker), of Ford City, Donald Christian Bure, of Indiana, PA, and Ronald Jerome Bure and wife, Carla Sue (Songer), of Emporium; and sisters, Enetta Mae Davis, of Manorville, and Pamela Louise Bowser and husband, Dennis Jay, of Kittanning.

Jim was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Heather Marie Bure, who died at birth; brothers, Barry Lee Bure and William Norman Bure; paternal grandmother, Freida Mae Swigart; maternal grandparents, James Boyd and Frances Enetta (Colwell) Hindman; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Grimm and Rev. Richard Molgaard co-officiating.

A private burial will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Jim to Allegheny Health Network Hospice and Palliative Care Program, 4818 Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15224.
