Guy K. Barker, Sr.

Guy K. Barker, Sr., 93, of Kittanning, PA, passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Kittanning Care Center.

He was born May 8, 1923 in West Valley, Armstrong Co., PA, the son of Milton J. and Ella Nora (Waugaman) Barker.

Guy was a lifelong resident of Armstrong County and graduated from Kittanning High School in 1942. After high school, he worked on the family farm. In 1947, Guy started working at Snyder Implements International Harvester dealership, which later became Crytzer Equipment, where he was shop foreman until 1985. After leaving Crytzer's, Guy worked as a teacher's aide at Lenape Technical School in the Automotive Technology and Agriculture Science programs until 1997.

He was a former member of Mt. Union Reformed Church and served as Sunday school superintendent for more than five years. Guy was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ. He also was a scout leader for the Boy Scouts for five years and enjoyed investing in the lives of the young men he worked with. Guy and his wife Mary shared many memories together. One such memory was how Guy and Mary dismantled their house in 1959 and had it rebuilt on a different plot of land, near Sunnyside. Guy was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. Spotting deer and watching the elk in Benezette were two of his favorite hobbies. Those who knew Guy will always remember his easy-going nature and willingness to help others.

He will be greatly missed by his son, Guy K. "Ken" Barker, Jr., of Kittanning; numerous nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law, Frank Bowser.

Guy was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Mary E. Barker, whom he married January 2, 1946 and who died August 22, 2011; one infant son; brothers, Robert F. "Tom" Barker, Howard Barker, and Henry Barker; and sister, Edith (Barker) Bleakney. He was also predeceased by three siblings prior to his birth: Vernie Barker, Florence Barker and a baby who was stillborn.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Friday, March 24, 2017, at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc, 515 N. McKean Street, Kittanning.

Additional visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at St. Luke's United Church of Christ, 333 N. McKean St., Kittanning, PA, with Pastor Edward Walters and the Rev. John W. Snyder, Pastor Emeritus, co-officiating.

Burial will be in Center Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Kittanning, PA.
