Bonnie I. Starr

Bonnie I. Starr, 94, of Kittanning, PA, died Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Armstrong County Health Center.

She was born January 9, 1923 in Kittanning, the daughter of William M. and Virginia (Earley) Leech.

Bonnie was a lifelong resident of Kittanning and a member of the Kittanning First United Methodist Church, where she served on committees and participated in several church groups. She was also a former member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary and was a Past Worthy Matron of Order of the Eastern Star Kittanning Chapter 277. She also served as Mother Advisor for the Order of the Rainbow Girls.

A devoted wife for 75 years, Bonnie loved to sit with Dick on the swing in their yard and visit with friends passing by. She was an avid gardener, tending to both vegetables and flower gardens with care. Bonnie enjoyed sewing and making clothes for all members of her family, and also loved to bake cookies, pies, sweet rolls and buns to share with family and friends. Many hours were spent making quilts, tole painting on wood, slate and pottery, and creating ceramic Santa Clauses, angels, Christmas ornaments and other items to share with friends. Bonnie's greatest joy was caring for her family and she will be greatly missed by those who knew her.

Her memory will be cherished by her sons, Richard E. Starr, of Kittanning, and Rev. William J. Starr and wife, Nancy, of Elizabeth, PA; daughter, Carolyn J. Gallaher, of Kittanning; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Bonnie was predeceased by her parents; loving husband of almost 75 years, Richard E. Starr, whom she married February 8, 1942 and who died January 18, 2017; granddaughter, Amy Gallaher; grandson, David M. Gallaher; brothers, John P. Leech and William R. Leech; sister, Mable Jean Leech; son-in-law, David Gallaher; and daughter-in-law, Linda (Labutka) Starr.
