Maxine Marie Best Barr

Maxine Marie Best Barr, 93, of Rimersburg, PA, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017, at VNA Hospice in Butler, PA.

She was born January 8, 1924 on a farm in Huey, PA, the daughter of Budd L. and Maude M. (Ashbaugh) Best.

Maxine was a lifelong resident of Clarion County and graduated from Sligo High School in 1941. She married Harold A. Barr on March 14, 1942 and dedicated her life to caring for her family and home. Maxine was a member of the New Athens Church of God of Prophecy where she served as the treasurer and clerk for 20 years. She also volunteered at the Butler VA Hospital for eight years. Maxine was an excellent gardener and enjoyed growing and canning vegetables. She also loved baking, especially pies that she shared generously with all. Maxine was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

She will be deeply missed by her daughter, J. Lorraine Barr, of Rimersburg; son, Steven H. Barr, of Parker, CO; grandchildren, Laurie L. Stone, of Naperville, IL and Daniel A. Barr, of Huntsville, AL; brother, J. Budd Best, and wife, Lois, of Triangle, VA; sister, Geraldine F. Bowser, of Rimersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews that she was very close to.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Harold A. Barr, who passed away April 23, 1988; infant son, Wesley Cleveland Barr, who died in 1947; daughter, Connie Maxine Barr, who died March 13, 2013; brothers, Steve, Chester and Walter Best; sisters, Dorothy E. Ion, Olive E. Grant; infant sister, Gladys Best; and son-in-law, Ron Parsons, who died February 25, 2015.

Family and friends will be received from 4-8 PM on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home, 758 Main St., Rimersburg.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Colin Koch officiating.

Burial will be in Rimersburg Cemetery, Rimersburg, PA.
