Melvin C. Dalzell, 87, of West Kittanning, died Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Allegheny General Hospital.

He was born March 24, 1926 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of J. Clinton and Hilda (Graff) Dalzell.

Melvin spent his youth in Pittsburgh and graduated from South Hills High School in 1944. He honorably served in the US Army Air Force during World War II and after returning attended the Carnegie Institute of Technology, where he received his Bachelor's degree in engineering. Melvin went on to work as the General Superintendent of Fabrication at PPG Industries in Ford City, where he spent 38 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Kittanning and also belonged to Monongahela Masonic Lodge #244, the Pennsylvania Consistory and the Syria Shrine.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, L. Ruth (Pope) Dalzell, whom he married April 22, 1949; son, John E. Dalzell and wife, Nikki, of Pittsburgh; daughter, Cindy Volek and husband, Tim, of Kittanning; grandson, Bradley Volek and wife, Emily; and granddaughters, Meaghan Volek, Elysse Dalzell, Lillian Dalzell and Emily Dalzell.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Dalzell.

Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday, September 20, 2013 at Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc, 515 N. McKean Street, Kittanning.

Additional visitation will be held at 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Allyn Ricketts officiating.

Burial will be in Kittanning Cemetery, Kittanning, Pennsylvania.
