Barbara L. Burton

Barbara L. Burton, 74, of Kittanning, PA, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 20, 1939 in Leechburg, PA to Joseph N. and Pearl E. (Klingensmith) Burton, Sr.

Barbara was a former resident of Leechburg and graduated from Leechburg High School in 1957. She moved to Kittanning in 1966 and was employed at the former Peoples Gas Company for 38 years until her retirement in 1995. Barbara was an active member of St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe Roman Catholic Church of Kittanning and was a former member of the Pastoral Council. Throughout her years at the church she served on the finance committee, led the rosary on Sundays for 28 years, sang in the Resurrection Choir and volunteered at the Parish Hall.

Serving the community was important to Barb. In the past she held the positions of chairman of the board of directors for Community Action of Armstrong County, Judge of Elections for North Buffalo Twp., and president of the United Way of Armstrong County. Barb was an avid bowler and was involved in many bowling organizations. She served as past director and president of the Ford City Women's Bowling Association for 19 years, past president of the USBC Women's Bowling Conference, and past secretary of both the Allegheny Women's Bowling League and Ladies Gold Crown Bowling League. Barb also coached junior bowling and served on the Board of Directors of Pennsylvania State Junior Bowlers. Her greatest enjoyments were playing golf, bowling, and taking care of and making a home for her cats.

She is survived by her brother, Joseph Nicholas "Nick" Burton, Jr. and wife, Rosemary, of Wilmington, NC; sisters, Dorothy Dalena, of Gibsonia, Patricia Venesky, of Sharpsville, and Jane Collins and husband, Regis, of North Augusta, SC; sister-in-law, Cindy Burton, of Apollo; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, James M. Burton; nephew, Eric Burton; and brothers-in-law, Donald Dalena and Edward Venesky.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 N. McKean Street, Kittanning, PA, where a recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6:30 PM.

A Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe, 101 W. High St., Kittanning, with the Reverend Douglas E. Dorula as celebrant.

Interment will be at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Leechburg, PA.
