Velma L. Bleakney

Velma L. Bleakney, 81, of Elderton, PA, died Friday, July 31, 2015 at Indian Haven Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born November 19, 1933 in Plumcreek Twp., Armstrong Co., PA, the daughter of Arthur Forest Cribbs and Goldie I. (Reefer) Cribbs.

Velma grew up in Armstrong County and graduated from Elderton High School in 1951. She lived in Wilkes-Barre for 18 years, and while there worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield Insurance in the Major Medical Department. Velma also was employed by Jewelcore and as a clerk in a grocery store. She returned to Elderton in 1982 and was a member of Elderton Presbyterian Church. Her favorite hobbies were playing bingo, playing cards and reading. Most recently, Velma lived at Moorehead Place in Indiana, PA. She cherished the friendships she made there throughout the last two years. Velma also loved spending time with her family and will be greatly missed.

Her memory will be cherished by her son, Brad Eugene Bleakney and wife, Kathryn, of Chicago, IL; daughter, Rita Lee Strezo and husband, Kevin, of Indiana, PA; grandsons, Vaughn Blair Bleakney, Kevin Michael Strezo and Andrew John Blair Strezo; sisters, Gladys Ruth Johns and husband, Harry, of Elderton, and Grace Louise McConnell and husband, Robert, of Erie; and several nieces and nephews.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Blair E. Bleakney, whom she married March 2, 1956 and who died February 28, 2000; infant brother, Blaine Eugene Cribbs; and brother, Arthur "Wayne" Cribbs.

At Velma's request, services will be private.

Burial will be in Elderton Cemetery, Elderton, PA.
