Richard L. ''Rick'' Townsend

Richard L. "Rick" Townsend, 52, of Shady Plain, PA, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at ACMH after a two-year battle with brain cancer. He was surrounded by his family.

He was born in Kittanning, PA, on October 7, 1961, to Robert L. and Joan I. (Schaeffer) Townsend.

Rick was a resident of the area all his life; he attended Elderton High School and graduated from Lenape Vo-Tech. Prior to his cancer, Rick was employed by Specialty Tire of America in Indiana, PA, where he worked for over 25 years. He worked as a forklift operator and was very proud of his ability to pick up a dime from the floor. Rick enjoyed hunting and was also a lifetime member of the NRA; he also belonged to the Red Barn Sportsman's Club and the Harley Owner's Group. Riding his Harley was Rick's favorite activity on his Road King. Rick will be best remembered for being a fun person to be around, and those who knew him will never forget his laughter.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 21 years, Marlene (Cox) Townsend, whom he married on August 15, 1992; parents, Robert L. and Joan I. Townsend; step-children, Veronica Vukmanic and husband, John, of Stafford, VA, John Kunkle and wife, Nikki, of Spring Church, Wendy Yusko and husband, Joe, of Monroeville, and Charlotte Hewitt and husband, Justin, of Cranberry Twp.; step-grandchildren, Kenny, Mathew and Lexi Vukmanic, Alex, Kylee and Josh Kunkle, Aidan Yusko, and Marshall and Deacon Hewitt; sister, Debbie (Townsend) Jamison and husband, Barry, of Shady Plain; sisters-in-law, Sherry Klingensmith, of New Kensington, and Darlene Kelly, of Sulphur, LA; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harry and Elsie Schaeffer, and Robert S. and Janet Townsend.

Relatives and friends may visit from 2:30 PM until the time of funeral services at 7 PM on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Clark Chapel Funeral Home, 238 South Main Street, Elderton, PA, with Pastor Dan Lawrence officiating.
