Roger D. BoyerRoger D. Boyer, age 55, of Yatesboro, PA, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2012, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born March 7, 1957, in Kittanning, PA, the son of Russell and Elmira L. (Emert) Boyer.
Roger spent most of his life in the Elderton and Cherry Run area and was a member of the St. Paul Congregational Church of Rural Valley. A tri-axle truck driver by trade, he was most recently employed as a rig hand with Jim Leighton Water Well Drilling.
Roger was a friend to all that knew him. He loved restoring old cars and tractors, and was known to tinker around his home on various projects. A man of the outdoors, Roger could often be found mowing grass. His most important interest was his family members; his favorite times were those spent with his wife, sons, daughters, grandchildren and extended family and he will be fondly remembered as a man with a big heart of gold.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his father; wife, Christine (Waugaman) Boyer, who he married September 12, 1992; sons, Jimmy Boyer and wife, Megan, and Gary 'Buddy" Boyer and wife, Nikki, all of Worthington; daughters, Brandy Szczygiel and husband, Jeremy, of Petrolia and Sara Serafine and husband, Chris, of Kittanning; grandchildren, Brittanny Boyer, Dylan Barton, Sierra Boyer, Logan Szczygiel, Hannah Boyer, Elizabeth Szczygiel, Ronald Szczygiel, Deanna Boyer and Emma Boyer; brothers, Tom Boyer and wife, Brenda, of Kittanning, Ronald Boyer and wife, Tina, of Cherry Run, and Gary Boyer and wife, Vonnie, of Parkwood; sisters, Diane McClafferty and husband, Lou, of Rural Valley and Melanie Wannett and husband, Mark, of Creekside; one step-brother; three step-sisters; special friend, Jeff Smith of Yatesboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, who died in 2007; brother, Wayne Boyer, who died in 2002; and nephew, Shawn Boyer, who died in 2010.
Relatives and friends may visit from 5-8PM on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at the Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home, Inc., 238 S. Main Street, Elderton, PA. Funeral services will immediately follow visitation at 8PM at the funeral home with the Rev. Tim Lewis officiating.
