Minnie Katherine Shaffer

Minnie Katherine (Guntrum) Shaffer, age 89, of Rimersburg, PA passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Clarview Nursing Home.

She was born September 10, 1922 in Rimersburg, PA, the daughter of Arnold and Iva (Rankin) Guntrum.

Minnie was a member of the Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church of Rimersburg. She married James W. Shaffer on December 5, 1941, and together they operated Shaffer's Store in Wildcat from 1948 through 1965. Minnie was a former Rebekah Lodge member. Faith and family were a large part of Minnie's life; she was very family-oriented, preparing meals and baked goods that could warm any heart. Other hobbies included crocheting and crafts with silk flowers and dolls. Always a positive and caring person, she was happiest when surrounded by her family. Minnie will be fondly remembered as a devoted and dedicated mother who guided her children through the ups and downs of life with warmth and kindness. She was a loving wife and mother and will be sadly missed by the many lives she touched.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, John H. Shaffer and wife, Judy, of Burlington, NC; daughters, Wanda L. Kozakovsky, of New Bethlehem, Lola D. Adams and husband, Daniel, of West Point, VA, Vickie L. Walters and husband, Thomas, of Rimersburg, and Brenda L. Hollingsworth and husband, Kevin, of Elizabethtown, NC; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Carl Guntrum, of Rimersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Minnie was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of 30 years, James W. Shaffer, who died on May 18, 1971; sons, James L. Shaffer and Lonnie W. Shaffer; grandson, John Shaffer, Jr.; brothers, Elcana Guntrum, Ray Guntrum and Neal Guntrum; and sister, Doreen Henderson.

Relatives and friends may visit from 7-9 PM on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 and from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 758 Main Street, Rimersburg, PA.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM at the funeral home on Friday, May 18, 2012, with her pastor, the Rev. Mark Deeter officiating.

Burial will be in Rimersburg Cemetery, Rimersburg, Clarion Co., PA.
